In 2011-12, ITPO’s performance under MoU 2011-12 was evaluated by the Department of Public Enterprises as the best among all the CPSEs under the administrative control of the Department of Commerce namely, State Trading Corporation of India Ltd., Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India Ltd., MMTC Ltd., and PEC Ltd.

Based on provisional performance, ITPO is expected to retain the ‘Excellent’ rating in 2012-13.

MoU between ITPO and the Department of Commerce (DoC)

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as applicable to public sector enterprises is a negotiated document between the government and the management of the enterprise specifying clearly the objectives of the agreement and the obligations of both the parties. The main purpose of the MoU system is to ensure a level playing field to the public sector enterprises vis-à-vis the private corporate sector.

MoU system in India was first introduced in 1986 as result of the recommendations of the Arjun Sengupta Committee Report (1984). The Committee laid emphasis on medium term contract between the Government and the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and recommended a five-year agreement that may be reviewed annually.

Accordingly, ITPO has been signing its annual Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with its Administrative Department namely, the Department of Commerce since the year 1992-93.

ITPO to sport a New Look

ITPO is going to sport a new and sleek look in the coming years. Pragati Maidan, the exhibition complex of ITPO will be evolving into a completely new and modernized exhibition complex with an integrated exhibition and convention centre.

The project is proposed to be executed in two phases - 1,00,000 sq.mtrs. of exhibition space with a Convention centre facility with a plenary hall of at least 5000 to 8000 pax capacity with additional state-of-the-art facilities and services in phase 1 (design year 2020), and further capacity addition of 1,00,000 sq.mtrs. in phase II (design year 2030). The overall project development have been planned for 412,320 sq.mtrs. of built up area (including support facilities and adequate basement parking space for about 4800 passenger car units (PCUs) to be executed in two phases.

After the completion of the first phase of proposed IECC (around 2017-18), the space at new facility will be of modern and state-of-the-art standard in all aspects.

The proposed infrastructure is likely to fill the serious gap in requirements for MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) sector in the NCR. It is expected to increase substantially foreign exchange earnings of the country and revenues of the services and business sector of Delhi, as many events in the MICE sector may shift to New Delhi from East Asian countries and other countries of the world.

ITPO has strengthened its multilateral and bilateral relationships by being a member of India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB), whose mandate is to promote India as a competent and credible destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and events (MICE) through its various activities. The mandate of ICPB is to promote India as a competent and credible meetings, incentives, conventions and events(MICE) destinations through its various activities. ICPB members include Corporate entities located in the India which are directly concerned with India’s MICE industry segments. Members of ICPB include the Department of Tourism, Government of India; Airlines; Hotels; Travel Agencies; Tour operators; Congress/convention centers and Professional congress/event organizers etc.

And signing MoUs with Visvesvaraya Industrial Trade Centre (VITC), Karnataka in May 2013 with the objective of ITPO and VITC co-operating with each other to carry forward the objectives of their respective organizations for mutual benefit and achievement of common goals of promoting the industry and exports from the region. The areas covered under the MOu are to Exchange information on each other’s area of activities, identify potential products/ markets and introduce to each other opportunities for cooperation and partners for investment and trade, cooperate in organizing and participate in trade promotion activities, both within and outside India. interact periodically to formulate strategies to enhance trade and exports and review the progress achieved and provide each other with consultancy services within their scope of business / service

MOU signed with Madurai District Tiny & Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) is aimed at enhancing exports from the state. The MoU provides for ITPO advising MADITSSIA on seminars, conferences and workshops, in organizing trade fairs and exhibitions and on participation in international trade fairs and other trade promotion activities and collaborate in organisation of trade fairs.

World Trade Center, Mumbai signed in April, 2008, for joint organisation of workshops/ panel discussions on contemporary issues facilitates interaction of visiting trade delegations relating to trade and commerce from various countries for interaction with the industry in the western region. It also ordains exchange of trade and investment related information and publications, development of databases on joint ventures and technology transfers and explore possibility of joint organization of exhibitions in India and abroad.

Bengal National Chamber of Commerce (BNCCI) - Around the same time, the intiative in the eastern regional was picked up by BNCCI, for promoting the Industrial Trade Fair in Kolkatta.

The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Sparkling is the MOU signed with GJEPC for collaboration in organizing The India Gem & Jewellery Fair in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The fair is targeted at the consumers, especially those in New Delhi and the northern region. ITPO and GJEPC have agreed to host the exhibition for the next three years and plan to further scale it up on an international level.

National Book Trust - The world of books has found a patron in ITPO, when ITPO signed a MoU with National Book Trust for collaboration in organizing the World Book Fair annually at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The World Book Fair is one of the largest events for books and other publications organized in the country.

Department of Science and Technology (DST) - Inspired to boost the talent of young prospective scientists, ITPO signed up an MoU with DST in Sept., 2012 for the conduct of National level Exhibition and Project Competitions (NLEPC) under the Innovation in Science Pursuit for the Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Award Scheme. As per the MOU, ITPO will undertake organization of the NLEPC of DST on turnkey basis.

ITPO has successfully undertaken the organization of the 2nd edition of NLEPC in October 2012 and preparations for the organization of the 3rd edition to be held in October 2013 are underway.
